| Acupressure Better for Backs A study shows this healing method beats out physical therapy |
| Taiwanese researchers compared the effectiveness of acupressure and physical therapy for treating low back pain. The results of the study appeared in the July 2004 issue of Preventive Medicine. The 146 participants in the study were randomly assigned to get either six acupressure or six physical therapy treatments over the course of 4 weeks. Pain was assessed before and after treatment. Immediately after the completion of the treatments, the average pain score was significantly lower in the acupressure group than in the physical therapy group. Six months after the treatments, the average pain score in the acupressure group was still lower than it was in the physical therapy group. |
